This learning support Senior Language Arts course is designed to further develop students skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  With the benefit of explicit instruction, pacing adjustments, and accommodations/modifications to best meet individual learning needs, students further develop their reading and writing skills through novels, short stories, plays, nonfiction articles, and poetry.  Character analysis, plot structure, literary elements, and themes are practiced as each piece of literature is explored. An emphasis is placed on reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and written expression through close reading, annotation, and examining textual evidence.  Study of writing includes paragraph structure, essay organization, research writing, and text dependent analysis.  Course content addresses grade level PA Common Core Standards for English Language Arts in preparation for the Keystone Exam.  This pull out class must be a recommendation from the IEP team.
