Penns Manor Area Junior/ Senior High School Where Bright Futures Begin

Principal's Corner

Welcome back for the 2017-2018 school year!  I hope everyone had a fun and safe summer.  I am excited for the new school year.  Our maintenance and cleaning staff have been working hard to get the building ready for the first day of school.

There are several changes for this school year.  We will be implementing a new Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) initiative.  Mr. Grimaldi has moved to Director of Education, where he will be overseeing the implementation of this initiative.  We are going to begin implementing MTSS in grades K, 1, 6, and 7.  Mrs. Zeglen has moved down to the elementary, where she will serve as Principal.   Mrs. Carol Maudie will be joining our staff as our new life skills teacher.  She is replacing Mrs. Roach, who moved to the elementary as a reading specialist in our MTSS initiative.

Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, PMHS students will no longer have a homeroom period.  Students will report directly to their first period class, where daily attendance will be taken.  The time that was previously allotted for homeroom has been moved to a scheduled period later in the day.  This time will be used for building wide MTSS intervention and enrichment period.  During this time core subject areas will pull students who need additional instruction.

Every other Friday, the flex period will be used for activity period and academic period.   During activity period, school clubs will meet.  The clubs will be split into two groups, an A and a B group, so students are not trying to attend multiple meetings in the limited amount of time.  During the academic time, the teachers will meet with students and review their grades and attendance.

We will continue to work on aligning our curriculum with the PA Core Standards.  Teachers will continually review student test data and adjust their curriculum based on the student needs.  Our teachers have been working hard to enter their curriculum into eDoctrina, where we will be able to map our curriculum from grades K-12!

I am excited to start this school year.  We all have a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe we can have a successful school year.    I believe the hard work and dedication among the teachers and students will be reflected in our student performance.  Good luck to everyone this school year.   Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Good luck!

Mrs. Dolges
